RTG Service Projects
Posted on July 12th, 2011 No commentsNumerous service projects have been arranged to provide you with the opportunity to help others in need. If you plan to participate in the RTG service projects, please attend one of the orientation meetings (Sunday 4:00 pm or Monday 8:00 am in Convention Center room 213 D). During the orientation you will be instructed regarding proper attire, departure locations, etc. Please make sure you sign up at the RTG Booth located in the Ballroom AB prefunction area before all spots are filled. Below is a list of projects for each day. Thank you for your help in making a difference in someone’s world.

RTG 2011 – Partners Monday

1. Second Harvest Food Bank- Mon. 25 ppl from 1-4
*Food sorting in warehouse. (Must wear closed-toe shoes, comfy clothes, and have 1 adult for every 6 students. Must be 12+ years old.)
2. Brian Center Health & Rehab- Mon. 10 ppl from 1-5 pm
*Helping with crafts for the elderly. Possibly yard work, and spending time with residents.
3. Samaritan’s Feet- Mon. 50 ppl from 1:30-4:30
*Working in the warehouse sorting and packing shoes that are sent to children in need.
4. Jackson Park Ministries- Mon. 25 ppl from 8-5 (separate groups if we want)
*Kids day camp.
5. Classroom Central- Mon. 10 ppl from 1-4
*Sorting books and packing them away. Helping sort school supplies for teachers.
6. Urban Ministry Center- Mon. 20 ppl from 9:30-11
*Helping with an event called “Faces of the Homeless panel.” Working with homeless.
7. Room At the Inn- Mon. 6 ppl from 10-4 (60 hours)
*Sorting donations.
8. Golden Living Center (Dartmouth)- Mon. 8 ppl from 2:30-4
*Bingo and other games with elderly residents.
9. Golden Living Center- Mon. 5 ppl from 10:00-12:00
*Activities with the elderly residents- bingo, reading to them, etc…
10. Shining Hope Farms- Mon. 15 ppl from 8:00-5:00
*Working in horse stables, possibly with the horses, but mostly cleaning barns.

*Deep cleaning, organizing, sorting. One adult for every 5 youth.
2. Brian Center Health & Rehab- Tues. 10 ppl from 1-5 pm
*Helping with crafts for the elderly. Possibly yard work, and spending time with residents.

*Games with the children. Cleaning the playroom. Ages 14 and older only.

*Cleaning and outdoor work.
7. Allegro Foundation- Tues. 20 ppl from 1-5
*Deep cleaning, organizing, outdoor work. Wear closed-toe shoes.
8. The Harvest Center- Tues. 12 ppl from 10-5
*Painting and landscaping around the facility.
9. Shining Hope Farms- Tues. 15 ppl from 8:00-5:00
*Working in horse stables, possibly with the horses, but mostly cleaning barns.

*Making plants for families (best for Middle School or younger)
11. Jacob’s Ladder Job Center- Tues. 10 ppl from 1:00-4:00
*Cleaning offices and facility.

RTG 2011 Coordinator

For a bit of history:
The seed of Reach That Guy sprouted in Charlotte, NC in 1995. The NYC staff coordinated with the Charlotte Housing Authority to assist elderly and handicapped Charlotte residents. Over 150 young people participated in this initial effort to leave a lasting mark in the convention host city. [Contact, September 1995, p. 20]
So, hope to see you all in Charlotte–the birthplace of Reach That Guy!
